Darby-2-2-09-(2)
Northern Virginia Yorkies was formed shortly after our poodle, Darby, died.  We bought Darby nine years before his untimely death.  We did EVERYTHING wrong when we bought him.  We purchased him from a pet store and got ‘quite a deal’.  The ‘deal’ turned out to be a life of pain and misery for Darby and a lot of money spent by us trying to make it better.  Darby was born in a ‘puppy farm’ and when we bought him; we unknowingly helped that puppy farm stay around longer than it should have.  Our $300 purchase price quickly became thousands of dollars and years of heartache for both my family and our little dog.  When Darby was 9 years old we had to put him down.  With a tumor on his spine, a mass in his gallbladder, failing eyesight and countless bladder stones we had to say goodbye to our beloved pet.  We tried over and over to make his life more comfortable but when walking became too painful for him we had to let him go.
Carson-Puppy

A year before Darby died we purchased our first Yorkie, Carson.  We did some research and found a reputable breeder close by.  We honestly believe that Carson helped Darby make it through his last year of life.  He was this little ball of love and energy that even our sick old Darby couldn’t help but love.  Darby and Carson were best buddies until the day Darby left us.

After Darby’s death I wanted to help make sure people did not go through what we went through with our little guy.  I started by reading everything I could get my hands on about Yorkshire Terriers and breeding.  I knew right away it was the right thing to do.  I wanted to make sure that people could buy top quality pets that did not come with a life of heartache.  I also found myself a wonderful mentor in a woman named Kay.  Kay probably didn’t know what she was getting into when I called her and said, “Can I ask you a few questions?”  Thankfully the answer was ‘yes’ on that first call and the answer continues to be ‘yes’ ever since.  With almost 30 years experience showing and breeding Yorkshire Terriers, she is a wealth of information.  Some of my precious babies have come from Kay’s breeding program.

The goal of Northern Virginia Yorkies is to breed top quality, purebred, AKC registered Yorkshire Terriers that improve the breed.  These are healthy dogs that come with health guarantees and a lifetime of support from me.

I hope you enjoy surfing my web site.  Please let me know if I can help you in any way!
